There’s no shortage of radar guns being pointed at Orange Lutheran right-hander Gerrit Cole as he pitches against Yucaipa in a quarterfinal game of the Anderson Bat National Classic at Cal State Fullerton.
My count has more than 24 radar guns. Cole threw a 96 mph fastball to strike out Matt Davidson in the first inning. He has retired all six batters, three on strikeouts. Orange Lutheran leads, 4-0, going into the bottom of the third inning.
The best pitcher I’ve seen so far this season has been junior Trevor Bauer of Hart. Cole is in a class by himself because of his velocity and his ability to also throw a changeup and curveball for strikes.
