The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved a plan that will curtail development in the local business district.
The council voted 13 to 0 for the Palisades Commercial Village Specific Plan, which includes building and zoning laws intended to maintain the village-like character of the area.
The plan, to go into effect in mid-December, will set limits on development on Sunset Boulevard between Carey Street and Temescal Canyon Road and La Cruz Drive, Monument Street, Swarthmore Avenue, Via de La Paz and Antioch Street.
Restrictions on land use, building heights and parking areas are included. The plan also has strict landscape and business sign standards and specifies urban design features appropriate for the area.
