Seattle Mariner catcher Bob Kearney become the third major league player to win his salary arbitration case in the eight that have been decided. Kearney, who hit .243 with 6 home runs and 27 RBIs in 1985, was awarded a salary of $300,000. He had been making $183,000. The Mariners were offering $215,000.
Ted Power of the Cincinnati Reds, Greg Harris of the Texas Rangers, and Rufino Linares of the Angels, players who were scheduled to go to arbitration, signed contracts.
Linares appeared in 18 games with the Angels in 1985, hitting .258 with three homers and 11 RBI. The Angels offered him a $2,000 raise to $62,000. Linares wanted $150,000.
