A Westminster woman and a young passenger were reported in critical condition late Sunday after a car crash in which they were thrown through an open top, Westminster police said.
The driver, Jonette L. Longmore, 21, and passenger, Sharon R. Frazier, 12, both of Westminster, were taken to the trauma center of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Sgt. Andrew Hall said.
Longmore’s vehicle was struck by another car whose driver allegedly failed to obey a stop sign near the intersection of Hazard Avenue and Chestnut Street. The accident occurred about 3:55 p.m.
Longmore’s 3-year-old son, Edward J. Longmore, who was riding in a rear seat, was treated and released from the medical center, police said.
The driver of the other car, Donald W. Nixon, 60, of Los Angeles, was airlifted by emergency helicopter to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was in intensive care. His condition was not immediately available.
Sgt. Hall said that Nixon, who was traveling northbound on Chestnut, failed to stop at the stop sign on Hazard.
The impact threw Longmore and her passenger from her vehicle, a sports sedan with a removable roof or T-top, Hall said.
Nixon was not cited. However, the investigation is continuing, Hall said.
