An ex-convict who said he has a “split personality” was sentenced to a maximum term of 42 years in prison for two rapes that left one woman critically burned and another severely scarred. Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Sherman Juster cited the “sheer horror” of the crimes in sentencing James Robert Scott, 23, of Palmdale, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder and rape in an attack on a Palmdale woman whose bed he set afire. She remains in critical condition with burns over 34% of her body. He also pleaded guilty to raping another Palmdale woman, on whom he inflicted a deep facial cut. Scott said he suffers from a split personality, with an evil character called “Tony” taking over to commit the violent crimes.
