Reagan Policy in South Africa

It is unfortunate that Tutu desires for the West to live in hell simply because of Reagan’s stance toward apartheid in South Africa. It is a simple fact of the business world that disinvestment will only work if other countries cooperate, and we are not yet at that stage of multinational cooperation.
Perhaps South Africa would be better off if the wealthy elite and the white collar work force understood the hellish feelings induced when “educational compassion” is invoked toward a repressed underclass.
Political and monetary pressures can only be exerted up to a certain point by the United States. The ultimate moral decisions must lie with the people of South Africa.
