Service Memorializes Harriman

NEW YORK — More than a dozen U.S. senators and prominent figures from the Kennedy era gathered at St. Thomas Episcopal Church today to remember W. Averell Harriman, adviser to Democratic presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter, who died Saturday at age 94.
Ushers included McGeorge Bundy, Clark Clifford, John Kenneth Galbraith, Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and Theodore Sorensen. Guests included Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, Gary Hart, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Joseph R. Biden Jr., Robert C. Byrd, George J. Mitchell and John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV. President Reagan was represented by U.N. Ambassador Vernon Walters.
