Firm Replacing Breakable Plastic Wheels on Bicycles
- Share via
WASHINGTON — Roadmaster Corp. is offering to replace the plastic wheels on certain of its bicycles because the wheels could break if the tire is overinflated, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Monday.
Involved are several thousand plastic “mag” wheels from both boys’ and girls’ sidewalk bikes, models 9693-KM and 7973-KM 12, the agency said. The bicycles were sold nationally by K mart stores, the agency reported.
Roadmaster has been informed of two instances in which minor injuries occurred when the wheels broke during tire inflation, the commission said.
Owners of the bicycles will be provided steel-spoked replacement wheels at no charge in return for the plastic wheels. To obtain the replacements, owners should contact the Roadmaster Parts and Service Department at 800-626-2811.
