An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife in their Chino home, police said this morning.
Bruce Johnson, 39, called Chino police at 6:20 p.m. Monday and told a dispatcher he had shot his wife, Chino Sgt. Steve Beckman said.
Officers found Cheryl Johnson, 38, dead at their home in the 4000 block of Carmen Avenue from a gunshot wound in the head, Beckman reported. A handgun was found at the scene.
Beckman said there was no one else in the house when the shooting occurred. “We’re looking at possible self-defense,” he said. “There was evidence of a . . . struggle.”
Johnson is a 16-year veteran assigned to the Central Division.
