Orange County Prep Soccer : Goalie Kicks La Quinta Into Tournament Final

La Quinta High School goalie Leslie Schneider made the deciding penalty kick in a girls’ soccer match against Kennedy Monday, advancing the Aztecs to the final of the Cerritos girls’ tournament.
La Quinta and Kennedy tied, 2-2, but went to a shoot-out to determine which team advanced.
Two of Kennedy’s three penalty kicks went over the goal, and Schneider made her kick to put La Quinta ahead, 4-2.
“I always like to give my goalie a chance to win the game,” said Bill Wilson, La Quinta coach. “She had worked hard.”
Jenny Prchal scored on a free kick and Renee Cano on a penalty kick in regulation to give La Quinta (10-1) a 2-1 lead. Kennedy’s Kristy DeMont scored her second goal with about 10 minutes to play, tying the match. Kennedy is 7-0-1.
Temple City defeated Valencia, 5-1, in the other semifinal.
Sonora plays Fountain Valley in the consolation final and Valencia meets Kennedy in the third-place game at 10 a.m. today. La Quinta plays Temple City for the championship at noon.
In the South Torrance boys’ tournament:
South Torrance 0, Marina 0 (South Torrance 3-0 on penalty kicks)--Kevin Hand made two saves on penalty kicks as South Torrance (9-1) advanced to the final of its tournament. South Torrance plays West Torrance in the championship at 3 p.m. today.
Marina 5, Hawthorne 2--Darin Fishman scored two goals for Marina in a quarterfinal. Marina plays Mira Costa for third place this afternoon at 3.
