Orange County Boys’ Basketball : Las Vegas Beats Newport Harbor in Double OT

Newport Harbor High School’s basketball team was shut out in the last two minutes of double-overtime as Las Vegas held on for a 65-62 victory in the third round of the San Dieguito Tournament at San Diego.
Byron Williams’ three-point play made the difference in the second-overtime period. Newport Harbor (2-4) was led by John Alstrom (18 points) and Jim Geerlings (16).
Williams led Las Vegas with 21 points. Newport Harbor plays Yuma, Ariz., for fifth place today.
In other San Dieguito Tournament play:
Fallbrook 54, San Clemente 51 (overtime)--San Clemente (2-7) came back from nine points down in the fourth quarter to force an overtime, but the Tritons made costly turnovers in the extra period and lost to Fallbrook in a consolation semifinal. Justin Burrows scored 15 for San Clemente. Ted Ringkamp led Fallbrook with 18.
In the San Diego Kiwanis Tournament:
Los Alamitos 59, Valhalla 58--Ryan Blossey scored 17 points and had 6 rebounds and 5 assists, leading the Griffins past the Northsmen in a first-round game at Hoover High in San Diego. Los Alamitos advances to tonight’s quarterfinals.
