USIU Again Beats Bethune-Cookman, 81-78

SAN DIEGO — Russ Heicke scored 22 points and Joe Yezbak added 15 to lead United States International University to its second straight nonconference college basketball victory, 81-78, over Bethune-Cookman Monday night in Golden Hall.
USIU, which had defeated Bethune-Cookman Saturday night, improved to 2-6. Bethune-Cookman fell to 1-7.
The Gulls led, 34-33, at halftime but Bethune-Cookman took a 36-34 lead three minutes into the second half. The Wildcats maintained their lead until the final four minutes, when Kelly Andrews was awarded a basket on goaltending to put USIU ahead, 74-73.
Ricardo Simsonscored on a layin to pull Bethune-Cookman to within 77-75 with 18 seconds left, but Mark Moses and Yezbak each hit two free throws to clinch it for USIU.
John Williams and Anthony Anderson led Bethune-Cookman with 20 points each.
