Bernard Sanders, believed to be the nation’s only socialist mayor, coasted to an easy victory in his fourth bid to run Burlington, Vermont’s largest city. Final unofficial returns from the city’s six wards gave Sanders, who was first elected mayor in 1981 by a 10-vote margin, 6,713 votes to 5,335 for Democratic challenger Paul Lafayette, a local painting contractor and former city alderman.
