Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) has asked the state auditor general to evaluate a University of California, Berkeley, report on student admissions that has drawn criticism from Asian community leaders. Roberti said Asian leaders have criticized the study for methodological flaws and said some are convinced that applications from Asian students are not being fairly considered. Among other things, the report fails to explain why the number of freshmen of Chinese or Japanese ancestry dropped between 1975 and 1986, Roberti said.
