7 Skiers Killed by Avalanche in Canada

BLUE RIVER, Canada — An avalanche swept down a mountain Monday morning, killing seven of 12 members of a ski party that had been brought to the remote area by helicopter, authorities said.
A clerk at the Venture Lodge in Blue River, where the skiers had been staying, said most of the party came from the West Coast of the United States. Blue River is in British Columbia about 260 miles northeast of Vancouver.
No identities were released pending positive identification and notification of relatives, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The bodies were recovered Monday afternoon by an RCMP search team.
The ski party’s guide and four other members managed to escape the avalanche in the rugged, snow-capped Monashee range.
