The driver of a van that crashed on a desert highway in San Bernardino County, killing eight Korean-speaking tourists on a Las Vegas gambling junket, was charged with eight counts of vehicular manslaughter. Sung Il Kim, 31, was at the wheel of the Do Re Mi Tours van in the May 20 wreck. Arraignment will be Oct. 28 in Barstow Municipal Court, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ronald Barbatoe said. Ji Soo Kim, owner of the bus firm based in Los Angeles’ Koreatown, was charged with one misdemeanor count of failing to register a transportation business with the state Public Utilities Commission. Driver Kim also faces one count each of driving without a chauffeur’s license, failing to maintain a logbook, failing to make daily vehicle inspections and giving false information to police, Barbatoe said.
