The Tokyo Stock Exchange, which granted membership to an additional 16 foreign-owned securities firms, will admit no new members in 1988, exchange President Michio Takeuchi told Kyodo News Service. “About 80% of the foreign firms which applied this time around were granted seats,” he said. Takeuchi said he believed that foreigners who had charged that the exchange’s membership policies discriminated against non-Japanese were now satisfied.
