Eli Lilly & Co.’s earning were up 9% to $643.7 million for 1987. Lilly said it had a fourth-quarter operating loss of $86.9 million due, in part, to attempts to restructure its agricultural products division and manufacturing. During the quarter, the Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company took a one-time operating charge of $271.9 million. That charge and others, the company said, almost offset the $216-million gain from the sale of its Elizabeth Arden unit in December.
