Ten Orange County high schools are among 69 in the state that are semifinalists for the 1987-88 California Distinguished High School Awards, state Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig announced in Sacramento.
The finalists will be named in April, Honig said. Semifinalists have been notified that they will now receive a visit from state and local educators who will be compiling information for selection of the finalists.
“I am delighted to recognize these semifinalists as excellent examples of how quality education is being achieved in California schools,” Honig said. “They were selected from 120 nominees out of a pool of over 800 senior high schools in the state.”
The Orange County high school semifinalists for the state award include Troy, Sunny Hills, and Fullerton high schools, all from the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
Saddleback Unified School District in south Orange County has two semifinalists--El Toro High and Mission Viejo High, as did Irvine Unified School District, which scored with Irvine and University high schools.
The other Orange County semifinalists are Marina High in the Huntington Beach Union High School District, Corona del Mar High in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District and Los Alamitos High in the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
