A grease blockage caused a more than 3,000-gallon sewage spill Monday in Pacific Beach, said Lyn Wallis, a spokesman for the county Department of Health Services.
At 10:40 a.m., grease stopped up a sewer main, forcing sewage to overflow at two locations near Grand Avenue, Wallis said.
More than 3,000 gallons of sewage spilled out near the lifeguard station and was cleaned up before it reached the beach. An additional 250 gallons spilled out at 4343 Ocean Blvd. and ran into the ocean. That spill was stopped about 12:50 a.m., Wallis said.
As a precautionary measure, warning signs will be posted for 100 yards each way from the site of the Ocean Boulevard spill for 24 hours, Wallis said.
