Bart Recktenwald, the Mission Conference offensive football player of the year, made an oral commitment to attend the University of Arizona next season, OCC announced Monday.
Recktenwald set the national record for all-purpose yardage last season with 2,495.
Recktenwald was a Times’ All-County player as a running back at La Quinta High School, but played defensive back his first season at OCC.
He was switched to running back last season and led the conference with 1,255 yards rushing despite playing sparingly in the final game because of a foot injury.
He also had 36 catches for 362 yards. Recktenwald set a conference and Orange County record with 17 touchdowns.
