THE PREPS : Roundup : Hathaway Makes Hole in One for El Modena

Denny Hathaway had a hole in one and shot a one-over-par 34 as El Modena High School defeated Santa Ana, 190-222, in a Century League golf match Thursday at Riverview golf course in Santa Ana.
Hathaway, a senior, had his hole in one on the 163-yard second hole. He used a seven-iron.
El Modena is 12-1 overall and 6-0 in league play.
In the Garden Grove:
Garden Grove 200, Los Amigos 240--Jim Spurlock shot a two-over 38 for Garden Grove (7-8, 4-0) at Mile Square golf course.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 196, Newport Harbor 243--Steve Dana shot two-over 37 for Corona del Mar (12-0, 5-) at Newport Beach Country Club.
Estancia 295, University 325 (13 holes)--Austin Maki shot two-under 51 for Estancia at Mesa Verde Country Club.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 399, Mission Viejo 489 (18 holes)--Scott Richardson shot a three-over 75 for Dana Hills (15-1, 7-1) at El Niguel Country Club.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 204, Ocean View 214--Mike Holmes shot a two-over 38 for Edison (8-6, 4-2) at Mile Square golf course.
In nonleague golf:
Valencia 400, Foothill 436 (18 holes)--Chris Tridland shot a one-over 73 for Valencia (15-1) at Santa Ana Country Club.
Sunny Hills 396, Brea-Olinda 395 (18 holes)--Kevin Clayborn shot a two-under 65 to lead Brea at the Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park.
In Academy League baseball:
Cal Lutheran 3, Heritage 1--Brad Pluckhan had two RBIs and Michael Geiger one for Cal Lutheran (5-1, 3-1) at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa. Geiger (3-1) struck out 10 to earn the victory.
In Garden Grove League boys’ swimming:
La Quinta 77, Garden Grove 76--The Aztecs won the last event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, for the victory at La Quinta. Jason Klugman won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly for the Aztecs.
In Garden Grove League girls’ swimming:
La Quinta 94, Garden Grove 62--Myra Fukashina had a qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.52) for the Aztecs at La Quinta.
In Freeway League boys’ tennis:
Sunny Hills 15, Sonora 3--Sunny Hills’ No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Duncan and Jason Klingsberg swept their matches, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, to lead the Lancers at Sonora.
In Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 15, Laguna Hills 3--Lee Kirner swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for the Artists (13-3, 5-1) at Laguna Beach.
Woodbridge 18, Costa Mesa 0--Randy Ivey swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Warriors (11-3, 6-0) at Woodbridge.
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 11, Marina 7--Mike Mell swept, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5, for Fountain Valley (13-2, 8-0) at Marina.
In nonleague tennis:
Corona del Mar 13, Miraleste 5--Rob Atkin and Doug Schulein swept, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, for Corona del Mar (13-3) at Miraleste
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Marina 3, Laguna Beach 1--Duane Cameron had 56 kills as the Vikings (8-3) upset Laguna Beach, 20-18, 8-15, 15-12, 16-14, at Marina. Dave Park had 32 kills for the Vikings. Laguna Beach (12-1) was ranked No. 1 in Orange County.
