William L. Tregoe, an actor-director most recently working as a consultant to the Los Angeles Unified School District, died Monday at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 67 and died of cardiac arrest.
Tregoe attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts early in his career and became a producer and director for the Avondale Playhouse in Indianapolis, said his longtime friend, Richard Erdman. There, he directed such stars as Linda Darnell, Pat O’Brien, Charles Coburn and Yvonne De Carlo.
He also worked as an assistant to Gower Champion, Erdman said.
As an actor, Tregoe was featured on stage in “Personal Appearance” and “Move Over, Mrs. Markham” while being seen regularly on television in several series, among them “Bewitched,” “The Lucy Show,” “Chico and the Man,” “Police Story” and “The Streets of San Francisco.”
His films included “Kentucky Fried Movie,” “Airplane” and “Runaway Train.”
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Hills, Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
