Steelers’ Merriweather to Vikings

National Football League teams spent Friday maneuvering for position in Sunday’s draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers obtained the Minnesota Vikings’ first-round pick for Mike Merriweather, three-time Pro Bowl linebacker who sat out last season in a contract dispute.
Viking General Manager Mike Lynn said that before the deal is final, the Steelers will have to sign Merriweather to a contract agreed upon by Merriweather and Minnesota.
The Philadelphia Eagles sent seven mid- and late-round draft picks to the Chicago Bears for the Bears’ third-round choice.
Meanwhile, Florida State offensive tackle Pat Tomberlin, expected to be a mid-round pick, remained hospitalized after a traffic accident in which he faces criminal charges for drunk driving and careless driving.
The Cincinnati Bengals signed eight-year receiver Cris Collinsworth, who had become a free agent after the 1988 season.
