MT. SAC RELAYS : McGrann, Sterling to Run Distance Events

Distance runners Beth McGrann and Brigid Sterling lead UC Irvine’s entries in the university and open divisions of the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. Competition in the two divisions begins this afternoon and continues on Sunday.
McGrann set a school record of 33 minutes 45 seconds and qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. meet in the 10,000 meters last year at Mt. SAC.
McGrann is entered in the 10,000, scheduled for tonight at 9:30, and the 5,000 Sunday at 9:40 a.m.
Sterling, the Big West Conference cross-country champion last fall, will run the 3,000 at 8:05 tonight and the invitational 1,500 on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Jim Geerlings, a freshman from Newport Harbor who was Orange County’s top high school miler last season with a best of 4:10.43, will compete in the distance medley relay tonight at 7:50 and the 1,500 Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
