Division of Lot OKd Despite Opposition

Dividing a large lot in Woodland Hills was approved by the Los Angeles City Council on Friday, despite neighbors’ objections that it signaled the downfall of their rural life style.
Jerome Buckmelter, who owns the property at 22641 Oxnard St., wants to build a second house on the lot, which is more than 30,000 square feet. He said the row of eight large lots in the area is in transition because of proximity to developments such as Warner Center and the Summit condominiums.
Neighbors said Buckmelter’s house would be closer to their horse stalls than city animal regulations allow. They said the lot division is premature.
Councilwoman Joy Picus, who represents the area, was absent on Friday. Councilman Hal Bernson recommended approval.
