Gaw Sparks Mission Viejo to 56-6 Rout of University

Mark Gaw scored three touchdowns to lead Mission Viejo High School to a 56-6 nonleague victory over University Friday night at Irvine Stadium.
Gaw rushed for 68 yards in nine carries for the county’s No. 2 ranked team.
Mission Viejo (2-0) jumped out to a 42-0 lead in the second quarter and breezed the rest of the way against University, which fumbled eight times and lost possession on six of them.
Mission Viejo, which has outscored its first two opponents, 98-6, also got an excellent effort from Jason Pappas, who rushed for 76 yards in 11 carries and scored one touchdown.
Mission Viejo quarterback Don Disbro, who came out of the game in the second quarter, completed four of eight passes for 45 yards and rushed for 42 yards in five carries. Teammate Ryan Darke rushed for 59 yards in five carries and also scored on a nine-yard touchdown pass with 4:55 left in the second quarter. By that time, the Diablos had a 35-0 lead.
University (0-2) was led by Mark Walker, who rushed for 54 yards in 15 carries. University’s Brian Vail completed four of 14 passes for 42 yards.
