Among the area entrants in the large-schools division are Antelope Valley, Canyon, Palmdale, Quartz Hill and Thousand Oaks, all of which will contend with defending Southern Section 3-A champion Rowland and runner-up Upland.

Bryan Dameworth of Agoura is the leading individual competitor in the race. The Agoura girls’ team, the two-time state Division I runner-up, also will compete in the medium-schools division.
Small-schools entrants include Bell-Jeff and Chaminade, second in the 1-A championships last year. Their girls’ teams will be pitted against 1988 state Division II runner-up Yucaipa.
