The following are commonly cited but bad reasons for changing jobs, according to Joseph J. Carideo, a partner in the management consulting firm of Thorndike Deland Associates in New York:
* A difficult boss. Don’t assume there won’t be similar difficulties in a new position.
* More money. A modest raise may not be worth it if the new job is not satisfying.
* Job pressures. It is naive to think that the next job won’t be equally demanding.
* A poor evaluation. Change jobs when you have some accomplishments to build on.
* A sense of stagnation. This may be a temporary feeling--don’t move hastily.
