Firefighters, responding to a house fire Thursday night in East San Diego, discovered a man’s badly burned body in a rear bedroom, police said.
The unidentified man was 6 feet tall and weighed 171 pounds, said Cal Vine, deputy coroner.
It took 22 firefighters more than four hours to contain the blaze at 7739 Shorewood Drive, which began at 9:54 p.m. Thursday, fire Capt. Allan Macdonald said. An investigation revealed that the fire had been deliberately set by someone who spread flammable liquid throughout the house and ignited it, said Detective John Buono of the Metro Arson Strike Team. Homicide detectives are investigating.
Damage to the single-story, wood house was estimated at $50,000, Macdonald said.
