A gunman shot and killed a British soldier who was working on a police station radio antenna in Northern Ireland, police reported. The outlawed Irish Republican Army, which is seeking to drive the British out of the province, claimed responsibility, according to the British Broadcasting Corp. Police said Staff Sgt. Kevin Froggett, 35, was repairing the antenna when he was hit by a burst of gunfire shortly after midnight at Coalisland, 30 miles west of Belfast. A second soldier who also was on the radio tower escaped unhurt when the gunman fired, police said.
