Tower Faces Closure: An Italian government committee Tuesday declared the Leaning Tower of Pisa a danger to the public and officials said it would almost certainly be closed to allow restoration. A panel of experts and scientists from the Public Works Ministry responsible for the 800-year-old tower, which attracts 4 million visitors each year, unanimously urged its immediate closure to allow emergency conservation work.
