Teen-age survivors testified about the panic on a burning church bus that collided with a pickup truck headed the wrong way on Interstate 71 near Carrollton, Ky. “It looked like somebody was standing in the front of the bus with a flamethrower,” one said. The May, 1988, accident killed 27 people. The truck driver, Larry Mahoney, 36, faces 27 counts of murder, one count of drunk driving and other charges. Mahoney broke into tears as Carroll County’s coroner graphically described bodies found inside the bus.
