Oxnard Beats Royal in 2 Overtimes

Quincy Johnson tipped in a Nazario Lopez’ shot as time elapsed in the second overtime to give Oxnard a 77-75 win over Royal in a Simi Valley basketball tournament game.
Oxnard’s Antonio Williams hit a five-foot jump shot with five seconds remaining to tie the game, 66-66, at the end of regulation. Royal (1-1) took a seven-point lead on a Russell Myers dunk with 52 seconds to play in the first overtime, but Oxnard (1-0) knotted the score, 73-73, on Alfred Martinez’s basket with 13 seconds left.
“I was just boxing out and the ball happened to go to my side,” Johnson said. “Luckily I was able to get it in at the buzzer.
Oxnard led, 37-25, at the half after Royal could only score four points in the second quarter. The Highlanders outscored Royal, 24-12, in the third quarter to tie the score, 49-49. The lead changed hands several times in the fourth quarter.
Myers led all scorers with 30 points for Royal.
