The City Council has approved bids by community groups for $92,000 in federal Housing and Community Development funding.
The council, which must approve the requests before they are forwarded to federal officials, endorsed five projects that were selected from seven proposals by a citizens’ committee overseeing the 16th-year Community Development Block Grant funds.
Those that will be submitted for funding include: $27,000 for the South County Community Clinic, $25,000 for the Episcopal Service Alliance, $15,000 for San Clemente Seniors, $15,000 for the Laguna Beach Community Clinic and $10,000 for the San Clemente Planning Division, to offset costs for preparing grant applications and monitoring the federal contracts.
City officials cautioned, however, that the federal government isn’t expected to fund all of the projects. They said they expect to receive about $80,000 out of the $92,000 sought.
