JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Three people died in fighting between rival black factions in South Africa’s Natal province on Christmas Eve, Pretoria police said Monday.
The Indian Ocean coast province has been split since 1984 by clashes between groups allied to the Zulu Inkatha movement and the leftist United Democratic Front, both of which oppose apartheid but differ sharply over tactics.
Gunmen killed two men at Sweetwaters on Sunday; near Margate a man was burned to death when a crowd set fire to a house.
