I unhesitatingly second McCarthy’s marvelous proposal to replace “The Star Spangled Banner” with Guthrie’s song. Woody’s beautiful ode to America and its people is both singable and down-to-earth in zest and joy.
As a retired elementary school teacher, I fondly recall the many times my students and I sang this amazing song which we all thoroughly enjoyed singing--an experience which always lifted our spirits and warmed our hearts with love for one another and for our country.
