Deukmejian Promotes San Fernando Judge

Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday appointed San Fernando Municipal Judge Charles L. Peven to a newly created position on the Los Angeles Superior Court bench.
Peven, 55, of Northridge was appointed to the San Fernando court by Deukmejian in 1987. Before that Peven was a commissioner for the Los Angeles Judicial District from 1980 to 1987, and practiced law in Van Nuys from 1971 to 1980.
Peven was a Los Angeles County prosecutor from 1959 to 1971.
He graduated from Michigan State University in 1955 and received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1958.
Municipal judges are paid $82,054 a year. Superior court judges receive $89,851.
