Houston Oilers Coach Jerry Glanville, responding to a television report that his team must reach the Super Bowl to save his job, said it’s news to him.
“Bud has never indicated that to me, and I’ll go on record that Bud’s never done anything to hurt us; all he’s done was try to help us,” said Glanville, who has one year remaining on his contract.
Cleveland beat the Oilers in the closing seconds Saturday night to win the AFC Central Division title. Houston (9-7) advanced to the playoffs as a wild-card team but could have won the AFC title with a victory in either of its last two regular-season games. The Oilers lost to Cincinnati, 61-7, before the loss to the Browns.
Adams denied that Glanville is in trouble.
“There’s no way Jerry’s on the griddle,” Adams said. “He’s got a year left on his contract. I think Jerry’s done a good job.”
