B. Dalton Parent to Buy Doubleday: The parent of B. Dalton Bookseller Inc. said it has agreed in principle to acquire Doubleday Book Shops from the U.S. unit of West Germany’s Bertelsmann A. G. for an undisclosed price. Doubleday, which has a flagship store on Fifth Avenue in mid-town Manhattan and was founded in 1910, has 40 outlets nationwide.
