Claremont : ‘Bomb’ Blown Up; Was Fake
Sheriff’s bomb experts blew up a package that fire officials first thought was a bomb, but which was actually some garbage bags stuffed in another garbage bag and wrapped in duct tape, authorities said.
An 18-year-old man, whose apartment at 917 Baseline Road reportedly had been burglarized and firebombed before, arrived home at 4 p.m. Tuesday to find the apartment had again been robbed. He also found two notes warning him of a bomb under the kitchen sink, Deputy Chris Wahla said.
The sheriff’s bomb squad was called, 12 people were evacuated from the building and the block was closed to traffic. The package was taken outdoors and blown up with a small explosive charge. No one was injured.
