BOYS’ ROUNDUP : Slayback’s 2 Goals Lead Laguna Hills Past Bell Gardens

Brian Slayback scored two goals to lead Laguna Hills High School to a 4-0 victory over Bell Gardens Friday in a Southern Section 2-A quarterfinal match at Laguna Hills.
Slayback tied the Laguna Hills’ single-season record of 23 set by Brian Fleming (1986-87). Chris Kannenberg and Scott Clark also scored. Chad Davidson had eight saves for his seventh shutout for Laguna Hills (22-5).
In another 2-A boys’ match:
Orange 5, Montebello 1--Montebello (19-2-4) led, 1-0, when Jose Juarez scored 10 minutes into the match. But Tim Huhn scored 15 minutes later and Ricky Heimer scored three goals in the second half as host Orange (18-0-4) pulled away. Juan Viveros also scored for Orange, the top seed in 2-A. . It was the third time that Heimer has scored three goals in a match this season. Orange’s Tres Martin had five saves
In the 4-A Division:
Simi Valley 1, Mater Dei 0 (OT)--Tom Hamlin scored two minutes into the second 10-minute overtime to give the hosts the victory. Simi Valley improved its record to 27-1, while Mater Dei finished at 16-7-2.
In the Small Schools Division:
Orange Lutheran 1, Temecula Valley 0--Jason Haynes scored five minutes into the match to lead host Orange Lutheran (16-2-2). Dave Hopper had six saves for Orange Lutheran and Chris Snodgrass had 14 saves for Temecula Valley.
