Alemany 5, Antelope Valley 0--Melanie Howard pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 in the first-round game of the Palmdale tournament.
Howard, who faced the minimum of 21 batters, had a perfect game through 4 2/3 innings, but a bloop single to left field ruined her bid. The Antelope Valley baserunner was subsequently thrown out attempting to steal second base.
Krista Gomez tripled and scored twice for Alemany (8-2), which won its fourth consecutive game.
Hoover 18, Montclair Prep 0--Freshman right-hander Nancy Evans (9-0) struck out nine batters in three innings, using just 29 pitches, and Diane Anderson struck out four in four innings of relief to lead Hoover (10-0) in a nonleague game at Montclair Prep.
The game was called after five innings because of a time limit.
