Supervisors OK $112,000 in Grants for Arts

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved $112,000 in matching grants to 20 county arts organizations through the National-State-County Partnership.
The grants range from $20,000 to the group Visual Communications to hire a full-time publications editor and produce program catalogues for a film and video series to $1,000 to XTET/Just the X of Us to help produce a chamber music program for the Open Festival component of September’s L.A. Festival.
Other grants include $12,000 to the AVAZ International Dance Theatre to hire an administrator and support and accounting personnel; $11,00 to the Beyond Baroque Foundation to hire a full-time program coordinator; $5,000 to the Performing Arts Society of Los Angeles to provide artists fees for the folk opera “Moneyman,” and $5,000 to Dance Gallery Inc. to present a series of emerging works by local choreographers.
Other recipients include Great Leap Inc., $10,000; Ballet Folklorico Cuica Calli, Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, Grand Peoples Company, Westside Arts Center Inc. and International Assn. of Jazz Appreciation, $5,000 each; Public Works Improvisational Theater, $4,000; Women in Theatre, $3,500; Westside Children’s Museum and Bard in the Yard, $3,000 each; Katja Biesanz/Dance Theatre, About Productions and Right Channel, $2,500 each; and Musical Arts Society of Los Angeles, $2,000.
