The head of West Los Angeles College, Linda Thor, has resigned to become president of Rio Salado College in Phoenix.
Thor, 40, was the youngest community college president in California when she took her post at the 70-acre Culver City campus in 1987. The campus, which has traditionally been overshadowed by Santa Monica College, has large numbers of women, minority and part-time students.
Thor, who joined the district in 1974 as a public information officer, was named acting president of the Westside campus in 1986. She is credited with bringing enrollment up from 6,400 in 1986 to 9,200 last fall.
