Hearing on Powers of Water Agency Delayed

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Florence T. Pickard on Tuesday postponed for one week hearing arguments about how much power a San Gabriel Valley water agency should have.

The Main San Gabriel Basin Watermaster, a nine-member board, wants added authority to coordinate cleanup of severe underground water pollution affecting the supply of 1 million people from Alhambra to La Verne.

In a press conference Tuesday, environmentalists continued to oppose more authority for the agency and called for creation of a public super-agency to handle the cleanup.
