Rescuers Racing Hurricane to Get to Stricken Ship

NEW YORK — A Greek cargo vessel in the Atlantic Ocean was taking on water and battling high winds and 20-foot seas Tuesday as rescue vessels raced oncoming Hurricane Bertha to the scene, authorities said. The 29-member crew of the 593-foot ship Corazon, bound for New York, radioed a distress call saying the ship’s keel had cracked, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
