Containment Near for Forest Fire

SANTA BARBARA — A wildfire that destroyed about 750 acres in the uninhabited back country of the Los Padres National Forest was close to being contained Tuesday night.
Full containment was expected by 10 a.m. today, the U.S. Forest Service said.
The blaze, which damaged no structures, headed northeast, away from populated areas. About 600 firefighters on the ground were aided by six air tankers and three helicopters dropping water and fire retardants.
Crews set backfires and plowed ditches to stop the fire’s advance, about seven miles north of here. Shortly after the blaze began, at a day-use campground, about 30 people were forced to evacuate the area and nearby picnic sites.
Cause of the fire was unknown.
