‘91 Padres: Color Them Blue
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres will switch their team colors from brown and orange to navy blue and orange starting next season.
The club has worn brown as its predominant color since entering the National League as an expansion franchise in 1969. In 1985 the Padres switched to orange trim after having used yellow and then a combination of yellow and orange.
The old Padres of the Pacific Coast League had navy blue as their main color.
“Those of us who have followed the Padres since the (minor league) days felt strongly that a change incorporating the best of the Padres’ tradition would be a significant improvement,” said Jack Goodall, a general partner in the team’s new ownership group. “By combining the navy blue, orange and white, we feel we have accomplished this.”
