LENOX, Mass. — Poor health has led conductor Leonard Bernstein to cancel a six-city European tour.
Bernstein hasn’t fully recovered from respiratory ailments that plagued him last winter and spring, Harry Kraut, Bernstein’s manager, said Monday.
“Maestro Bernstein deeply regrets that he must follow his doctor’s instructions and cancel his participation,” Kraut said.
The conductor had been scheduled to tour with an orchestra from the Tanglewood Music Center, a summer training center for young musicians where Bernstein began his career in 1940.
Bernstein’s 72nd birthday is Saturday. The tour was to have included concerts in Germany, Austria and Spain.
